Vegas Valley Winery

Food & Beverage, Las Vegas Valley

Listed Researched from public sources.

Henderson's Booze District winery, opened in 2017 by Patty Peters and Mike Schoenbaechler; wine and cider made on site, live music and a wine club.

Before there could be a winery in the Las Vegas Valley, the law had to change. Charlie and Patty Peters spent years lobbying for the right to open Grape Expectations, a school where locals make their own wine, and later moved it into the cluster of breweries and a distillery near Warm Springs and Eastgate that Henderson calls the Booze District. When further changes allowed a full winery, Patty and co-owner Mike Schoenbaechler opened Vegas Valley Winery in the same space. It began pouring in December 2017 and held its grand opening in January 2018, billed as the valley's first winery.

The people behind the barrels

Charlie Peters died suddenly at the end of 2012. Patty, who retired from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in 2016, has kept both businesses going. Mike started as an amateur winemaker with Charlie in 2005, joined the team in 2012, and became chief winemaker. He brought in grapes from Chile for a spring winemaking season and added wines aged two and three years in the style of Barolo, Brunello and Bordeaux.

What happens in the tasting room

Everything is made on site, from crushing and pressing the fruit to bottling. The tasting room pours wine and hard cider by the glass, sells bottles to go and offers winery tours. Groups of six or fewer can walk in without a reservation. The fall calendar lists live music on Friday and Saturday evenings, and the room also hosts classes, comparative tastings, wine and yoga, and craft nights.

  • Wine club: red, white, rosé or mixed, in 3, 6 or 12 bottles, with releases three times a year
  • Crush Crew: members help with production of the house wines
  • Private events: birthdays, bachelorette parties and private tastings

Hours: Wednesday and Thursday 4 to 9 PM, Friday 2 to 10 PM, Saturday noon to 10 PM, Sunday noon to 6 PM; closed Monday and Tuesday. The winery admits the building can be hard to find the first time, so allow a few extra minutes.
