Black & Blue Diner

An old Arby’s, made over New York style

Black & Blue Diner moved into a former Arby’s on South Decatur Boulevard, just south of the 95, and turned it into a sleek New York-style diner with a bar top and a fridge stocked with Yoo-hoo. It opened for takeout in October 2020, handing orders through the old drive-thru window, and welcomed dine-in guests in 2021.

The people behind it

The diner was chef Vic “Vegas” Moea’s idea. He has called Las Vegas home since 1989. Owner Rose Tummarello, a fellow New York native, met him when Bar Rescue paired her with a chef for The 51 House, her North Carolina restaurant. When he pitched a diner built on the New York food she loves, she said yes.

From the griddle and the grill

• CFNY: a New York steak pounded, breaded and fried, with two eggs and house country gravy
• Huevos taquitos, three rolled beef tacos with eggs, refried beans, red and green salsa and cheddar
• Fried chicken with your pick of waffle, pancakes or French toast
• Banana Foster pancakes and a French toast waffle
• Spam Bam: Spam, two eggs and white rice
• The B&B Signature Burger, Pat LaFrieda short rib and chuck with bacon onion jam and an onion ring on a Great Buns Bakery brioche bun
• The Monto, a lightly fried croissant Monte Cristo

Vegan, too

A separate vegan page covers much of the same ground: plant-based steak or chicken, vegan sausage, vegan mozzarella, vegan beef tips and eggs, chilaquiles, and French toast dipped in plant egg. Fries go in a fryer that never sees meat. Food writer Diana Edelman put the diner in her 2023 Las Vegas Vegan Dining Guide under best breakfast and named the vegan steak and eggs with shredded hash browns as her pick.

Ordering ahead for pickup online or by phone gets you the regular menu prices. Delivery through Grubhub, DoorDash and Uber Eats is available, with the apps’ fees built into those menus.

Hours: Breakfast and lunch all day, every day, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
