Thistle & Nightshade is an independent bookshop above Pizza Plus in northwest Reno, opened in 2024, with a community room for book clubs.
A bookstore for “weirdos and others”
Thistle & Nightshade is an independent bookshop in northwest Reno, co-owned by Alyx and Annie. KUNR named Alyx Harrigian as a co-owner in an October 2026 story and reported that the store opened in 2024. It sells books in all genres, along with candles and stickers.
The name is a joke the owners explain on their site. Thistle stands for resilience, strength and determination. Nightshade, they note, is a plant family that includes tomatoes, eggplant, potatoes and peppers, so it is deadly and “a little ridiculous.” They say they want the shop to be a little wicked, ridiculous, strong, resilient and determined.
Community room and book clubs
The shop recently opened a community room. Harrigian told KUNR it is always open to book clubs during store hours, and that craft days and trivia nights are planned. The room can be booked through the shop’s website, which also has an event calendar and sign-up page. Its book club meets in the Bookclubs app, where members vote on reads and schedule meetings.
Finding it, and buying books
The shop is directly above Pizza Plus, reached from the back parking lot: look for the Westridge Offices sign, then the end of Building A, closest to Absolute Dental. The site says to look for the glowing Bookshop sign. Hours listed on the site are noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday through Sunday, and closed Monday.
For titles beyond the shelves, the site links to Bookshop.org for new books, Biblio for used books and Libro.fm for audiobooks, with merchandise through Bonfire.
