Hollow and Quill is an independent Reno bookstore run by Gina Pelland and Ariana Micale, focused on romance, mystery, thriller and horror books.
Hollow and Quill is an independent bookstore at 300 South Wells Avenue, Suite 6, in Reno, run by Gina Pelland and Ariana Micale. Its own website describes the owners as a mother-daughter team who wanted to share their love of reading and make a place to hang out and talk about books.
The shelves lean toward romance, mystery, thrillers and horror, with new releases and backlist titles side by side. KOLO 8 News reported the shop’s grand opening for Saturday, March 28, 2026, and described it as an independent store specializing in romance, mystery and thriller books, with horror in the headline. The station placed it next to Roamer Coffee. The website says a coffee shop is next door and that visitors can sit and read in the shop’s community space.
What you can buy
The store sells new books and backlist books, and customers can special order a title it does not carry. The home page also offers pre-orders on upcoming releases; it was taking pre-orders on the next book in the Court of Thorns and Roses series, due October 27, 2026. Audiobooks are sold through Libro.fm, which links to the shop’s own page.
NewPages, a literary directory that lists independent bookstores, says the shop also carries a small selection of stationery and journaling supplies. It adds that the store hosts several book clubs a month, along with rotating crafting workshops, author signings and readings. The shop’s site has a group-events page, though when checked it described only a past series of sprayed-edge book workshops that ran on Sundays in August.
Visiting
Neither the website nor the KOLO story lists regular opening hours, so it is worth checking the shop’s Instagram or calling before a visit. KOLO said the store uses Instagram for events and promotions. The website also has a contact form for people who want to work with the shop.
