The burger

Stay Tuned keeps a tight menu: one smashburger, a vegan version and tots. Bobby Meader grinds shoulder clod in-house and presses it hard on the griddle so the edges go lacy and crisp. Then comes American cheese, a paprika-spiked secret sauce, house-made pickle chips and a heap of chopped white onion, on a butter-griddled potato bun. Grilled onion jam can stand in for the raw onion. The vegan burger cooks on a grill of its own. Tater tots come plain, cheesy, or loaded with cheese, pickles and caramelized onions. When Tasting Table wrote the place up in April 2026, a single was $10 and a double $12.

From a backyard to a dive bar

Meader, the founder and owner, grew up in Las Vegas and started in restaurants at 19, at Bellagio in 2007. From there he worked French brasseries, cocktail bars and Michelin-starred kitchens between Boston and Los Angeles, and spent five years chasing music. Two years in LA turned him into a smashburger hunter. When the pandemic hit he moved home and started selling burgers from his backyard, taking orders through Instagram messages. The Yukon Pizza crew pointed him to Vegas Test Kitchen, where he teamed up with chef Joe Cervantes, a Queens native with more than 20 years of running kitchens, and Alex Brustad, who comes out of the downtown music and food scene. Vegas Test Kitchen has since closed, and the burgers now have a permanent home at the Hard Hat Lounge.

About the Hard Hat

The Hard Hat Lounge on Industrial Road has been open since 1962. Musician Frank Sidoris bought it in 2023 and cleaned it up without sanding off the dive-bar feel. The bar is 21 and over, so anyone younger should plan on takeout.

The kitchen runs late, until 2 or 2:30 a.m. depending on the night; check the website for opening times. Pickup orders go through GoTab, delivery is available, gift cards are sold online, and regulars can join the Smash Club loyalty program.
