Arts District restaurant, cafe and rooftop music venue on Main Street, serving Maui-style Hawaiian fusion, Lavazza coffee and live shows Wednesday to Sunday.
Taverna Costera packs three places into one building at 1031 S. Main Street, on the north end of the Las Vegas Arts District: a sit-down restaurant, the Dragon's Alley Coffee Co. cafe, and an open-air rooftop bar with a stage. Owner Jeff Hwang opened it in 2021 and built it on a casino-resort idea he knew from two decades in the gaming industry: put several draws under one roof and people come for one and stay for the rest. Hwang has written books on poker strategy, studied hotel and business at UNLV, and plays guitar in local bands.
What's cooking now
The restaurant now runs a Maui-driven Hawaiian fusion menu designed by Chef Chris Mahon of Lahaina, whose Shark Pit Maui food truck twice made Yelp's national top 100 list, according to the restaurant. A few things to know about:
- Loco moco three ways, including a kalua pig version and a paniolo version with country gravy
- Chef Chris's fried barbecue ribs with Hawaiian-style sweet cornbread and guava butter
- Kalua pig nachos, seared ahi, kalbi ribs and tsunami fries with furikake and mochi crunch
- Weekend brunch plates such as blood orange pistachio French toast and banana pineapple pancakes with coconut cream
Bottomless sangria and mimosas run 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday, and happy hour is 3 to 6 p.m. and again from 10 p.m. to close.
Coffee downstairs, shows upstairs
Dragon's Alley pours Lavazza coffee, boba milk teas and the mazagran, a lemon coffee drink from Algeria, alongside hibachi steak fried rice, kimchi fried rice, pad Thai, Spam musubi and bento boxes. Its menu is served everywhere on the property, and it stays open late with the bars.
The Roof looks over the First Friday crowds on the 1st Street side and hosts live bands, DJs, karaoke, fashion shows and variety nights, most of them 21 and over. Some courtyard shows are open to all ages, and the venue books private parties and caters.
Restaurant hours: Wednesday and Thursday 11 a.m. to midnight, Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to 1 a.m., Sunday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; closed Monday and Tuesday. Dragon's Alley opens at 9 a.m. on the same days.
