Mix Bakeshop

Kayla Van Every and Marlene Esparza had already spent about a decade working at Mix Bakeshop when they became its owners in October 2025. KOLO’s April 2026 profile documented that transition, connecting the bakery’s next chapter to two people familiar with its kitchen and customers.

The Reno shop began in 2009 as Mix Cupcake Co. Its own history describes the addition of Levi’s Pies in 2015 and the move into a larger home in the Village Shopping Center on California Avenue. Cupcakes remain a centerpiece, with pies, cookies and decorated sugar cookies rounding out the bakery’s scratch-made selection.

Inside the cupcake case

The published menu moves between familiar combinations and more elaborate ones. Triple chocolate pairs chocolate cake with dark chocolate cream-cheese frosting. Monkey Business uses banana cake, butterscotch and a miniature pretzel, while salted caramel starts with vanilla cake. Red velvet, carrot cake and peanut-butter chocolate offer other directions.

That range lets someone buy an individual treat or put together a mixed box without committing an entire group to one flavor. The separate pie menu gives customers another option for a shared dessert.

Orders with an occasion in mind

• Custom cupcake orders cover birthdays, baby showers, office gatherings and weddings.
• Mini cupcakes can be ordered by the dozen or two dozen.
• Gluten-free and vegan cupcakes are available by special order.

The bakery asks customers to contact it directly about specialty requests. It also offers delivery to much of Reno and Sparks for qualifying cupcake orders, with advance notice and a delivery fee. Those arrangements are handled separately from a walk-in visit, giving the kitchen a chance to plan the quantity, format and timing for the event.
