a local gallery combining fine-art sales with appraisal and advisory work
Art encounter serves people buying artwork and people trying to understand artwork they already own. Its Las Vegas operation combines a gallery with appraisal, authentication, consulting and consignment services from offices on South Arville Street.
The people behind the gallery
Rod Maly founded the business in the early 1990s after a career in technology. The gallery's own history dates its Las Vegas operation to 1992. Local newspaper coverage from the 1990s independently documents Art encounter and Brett Maly's role in the business.
Brett K. Maly is now identified as president and appraiser. His biography records appraisal training through the University of California, Irvine, and his public work includes appearances discussing fine art on Pawn Stars. Scott L. Ferguson serves as executive director and curator, with responsibility that includes the consignment department.
Looking at art from several directions
The gallery offers work by established artists and emerging artists, with separate online categories for contemporary art and old and modern masters. Buyers can browse available pieces or seek advice through the gallery's consulting services.
Owners of existing collections have a different set of services available: appraisal, authentication inquiries and discussions about selling through consignment. The website also includes an online opinion service and information about the appraisal process, keeping those requests distinct from simply shopping the inventory.
Art encounter's current contact page places its gallery, general offices and valuation services together at the Arville Street location. It publishes weekday office hours and provides an email for artwork information, questions and photographs. That combination of a physical gallery and specialist services is central to the business's place in the local art market.
