Water Street Pizzeria

The deep dish at Water Street Pizzeria goes through the oven twice: a buttery pan crust, cheese and what the menu calls its famous Chicago sauce. It takes longer, and the menu politely asks you to be patient. The everyday pie is the opposite, a thin crust rolled from dough made fresh each day and baked to a golden brown.

Jim and Jan's place on Water Street

Owners Jim and Jan run the restaurant at 139 South Water Street in downtown Henderson's Water Street District. When the Boulder City Review wrote about it in January 2019, it described Jim Hawkins as a Boulder City resident who also runs heating and air conditioning, remodeling and concrete companies. He told the paper the idea went back to pizza after youth baseball games, and that he picked downtown Henderson because the area was coming back to life.

The dough, pizza sauce, marinara, Italian meatballs and lasagna all come from the owners' own recipes.

From the current menu

• Specialty pies such as the Milan (garlic butter, no red sauce), Raging Buffalo, the Tuscany and a Smashburger Pie
• Gluten-free crust and non-dairy cheese for an added charge
• Italian beef and meatball subs, chicken Parmesan and a baked calzone
• Bone-in wings, breaded or naked, with sauces including Mike's Hot Honey and garlic Parmesan
• Spaghetti, a three-meatball plate, salads, cannoli, cheesecake and spumoni

Beer and red and white wine are poured by the glass. The website also says you can ask for your pizza shaped like a heart.

Patio nights and bigger groups

There is indoor seating plus an outdoor patio, where the restaurant hosts live music; it posts entertainment updates on Facebook and Instagram. Big groups are asked to call ahead, and the owners take calls about hosting private events. Call for pickup; delivery orders go through the website. The menu notes a 3 percent surcharge on credit cards but not on debit.

Hours posted online: Tuesday to Thursday, noon to 8 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Call to check other days.
