Family-run transmission repair on South Highland Drive.
The name above this South Highland Drive shop has changed, but its family connection reaches back to 1964. Transmission Service Center began in Las Vegas as Royal Transmission. Its own history dates the move to the Highland location to 1967, before the original business expanded to additional valley shops.
The important distinction is what happened next. When the franchise operation was sold in the mid-1990s, the family retained the Highland shop. It adopted the Transmission Service Center name, and Billy Byrne took over from his father. The present business is that retained, family-run operation at 3088 South Highland Drive.
Transmissions are the shop's central line of work. Its published services include diagnosis, rebuilding and replacement of automatic and manual units in American, Asian and European vehicles. Clutch replacement and standard-transmission repair are also part of the service list.
Four-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive vehicles bring another component into the picture: the transfer case. The shop offers repair and rebuilding for those systems as well, keeping its work concentrated on the parts that transfer engine power through a vehicle.
Transmission Service Center advertises a free computer diagnostic scan and towing with a qualifying major repair. Drivers should discuss their particular vehicle, symptoms and towing arrangements with the shop before making plans. Its website identifies the business as an ATRA member and names Byrne as the owner.
An independent local directory matches the Highland address and published phone number, and customer accounts identify Billy at the shop. The business's own history supplies the ownership timeline. For someone trying to distinguish this operation from the old Royal network, that continuity at one retained location is the defining detail.
