The Book Shelf: Jen Castagno’s mobile fiction bookstore.
The Book Shelf brings a bookstore to the places people already gather. Jen Castagno's converted trailer travels to pop-ups around the Las Vegas Valley, carrying fiction for adults and younger readers instead of waiting for customers at a permanent storefront.
An English teacher takes the books on the road
Castagno is a Las Vegas native who taught English for nearly a decade before launching the business in 2024. In a Las Vegas Weekly interview, she describes recommendations as a favorite part of the work: learning what a reader likes, suggesting a book and hearing back after that person finishes it.
The trailer gives that conversation a compact setting. Nevada Public Radio's visit describes a renovated, enclosed space measuring seven by fourteen feet, stocked with roughly 900 volumes at the time of its report. Shelves and a deliberately cozy interior turn a mobile retail format into a place to browse.
Fiction for different readers
The business's Bookshop.org page identifies fiction as its focus, with books for children as well as adults. Castagno reads widely herself and told local reporters that she tries to read the books she stocks, seeking trusted recommendations for selections she has not yet read.
Mobility is central to the model. Castagno has described choosing locally rooted businesses for pop-ups and using different venues to reach different parts of the community. A visitor therefore follows a calendar rather than a fixed address.
The Book Shelf is also listed in the fall 2026 Vegas Indie Book Crawl, alongside the valley's physical independent bookstores. Customers can browse its Bookshop.org selections online and follow the business's Instagram account, @thebookshelf.vegas, for upcoming appearances. Checking the current event announcement is the way to find the trailer, since a previous market location does not establish its next stop.
