Build a guitar in a day on East Sunset Road

Plenty of shops will sell you a guitar. Sixx Gun Music will also sit you at the bench and have you assemble one. Its Build Your Own Guitar workshop runs a full day, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., beside luthier Daniel Margasa, with tools, parts and materials provided; prices start at $499 and depend on the guitar style and upgrades you pick. The next session on the calendar is October 11, 2026. Smaller classes cover a deluxe setup, building your own overdrive pedal, and guitar electronics, with dates announced as they are set.

The family behind the counter

This is an independent shop run by one family: Daniel Margasa, Alicia Anderson-Margasa, Angel and Matthew. Daniel founded Sixx Gun Music in New England, where it had two shops north of Boston and a custom shop in Maine, before the family moved it to Las Vegas. He is the shop’s master luthier and the founder of the Valkenburg USA guitar line. The shop’s 2025 announcement adds that he spent more than 25 years as a professional drummer, playing with acts including Fuel and Deep Purple.

What you can do there

• Shop new, preowned, vintage and custom guitars and basses, plus amps and cabinets, pedals, parts, strings, drums and percussion
• Buy, sell or trade: bring in an instrument for an evaluation and an offer
• Get repairs and setups on acoustic and electric guitars, covering frets, necks, electronics and tuners; call about amps, pedals or drums. Every job gets an inspection before a final quote.
• Book a one-hour lesson with instructor Chris Iorio, any level and any style, for $75
• Order a custom build with Daniel, or rent a guitar, bass or amp by the day

Valkenburg guitars are on hand to try in the store. The shop also hosts artist showcases for local players, rents its space for private events, and the crew sometimes heads out together to support local bands, so call ahead for the current calendar.

Hours: Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Repair drop-offs 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
