Shay Bernardi ran her own twelve-chair shop, Shay's Barber Shop, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, for twenty years. In March 2023 she opened a much smaller one in Boulder City. Best Dam Barber Shop is that shop: owner-run, on Boulder City Parkway, in the same plaza as Chilly Jilly'z.
How a Florida barber landed in Boulder City
Bernardi is a master barber. Besides the Fort Lauderdale years, she has served as barber for the Massachusetts, New York and California maritime academies, and she worked alongside her niece Judi at Judi's Barber Shop in Weymouth, Massachusetts. She moved to Nevada about a year and a half before opening here. The plaza has a family connection as well: Chilly Jilly'z belongs to another niece, Jill Bunch. When BoulderCity.com announced the opening, it noted that Bernardi was believed to be the only female master barber in town.

Hours
The schedule has changed since opening week. Recent map listings show Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., closed Sunday, Monday and Wednesday. This is a one-barber operation, so a call before driving over is a good idea. Boulder City's active business license list still carries Bernardi's license at the Parkway address, valid through June 2027.
