Red Dwarf

Russell Gardner once summed up his bar this way to beer writer Bob Barnes: if he were a bar, this is how he would look. That means punk, rock and roll, a little divey, but nice. Gardner is a Las Vegas native who has worked in beer his whole adult life, brewing, distributing, running bars and bartending at Astronomy Aleworks, and he opened Red Dwarf in December 2021 on Vegas Valley Drive, just east of Maryland Parkway in the Paradise Palms neighborhood.

Inside the room

When Gayot visited in 2022, tiki lamps hung over a bar top with album covers sealed into it, one wall was covered with posters from Las Vegas concerts back to the 1950s, and the draft lines ran through pipes shaped like a ship's steam plumbing, which Gardner designed himself. There were no gaming machines, and smoking was limited to the outdoor patio. The bar is 21 and over.

Who books the stage

Natalie Burge, whom the website names as an owner alongside Gardner, runs the music. Las Vegas Weekly profiled her in 2024: she sang on the first season of American Idol, later managed guitarist Earl Slick, and now books local and touring punk, surf, rock and alternative acts. Recurring nights have included a Surf Sunday Brunch and Drinks & Dragons. Shows and tickets are listed on the bar's DICE page.

Pizza and drinks

• Detroit-style square pies with the cheese baked to the pan edge and sauce on top, such as Meatsa Meatsa and the ham, pineapple and jalapeño Pineapple Does Belong on Pizza
• Build-your-own pies with vegan sausage or vegan cheese; the white sauce is vegan and made with cashews
• Wings, garlic bread and a Caesar salad
• A house-blend mai tai and painkiller, a flaming Braaaaaiiiinnssss zombie, and a rotating list of seasonal cocktails
• Canned beers from High Life to Moose Drool, and rotating drafts

Hours: Open daily, 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. Pizza can be ordered ahead for pickup.
