Studio 21 Tattoo Gallery: The Spencer Family’s 2,600-Square-Foot Operation
The Spencer family moved from Houston to Las Vegas in 1989. Charlie Spencer began getting tattooed that same year and noticed how few valley shops took customer service or cleanliness seriously — so in 2003, after a thirty-year career as a land surveyor, Spencer cashed in his 401k and opened a 1,300-square-foot studio off Arville Road near the Orleans Casino. Three years later the family relocated Studio 21 Tattoo Gallery to a 2,600-square-foot, architect-designed space at Flamingo Road and Jones Boulevard in Spring Valley, at the time believed to be the largest tattoo shop in the state of Nevada.
Studio 21 Tattoo Gallery runs as a four-person family operation — Charlie and Becki Spencer, with sons Austin and Courtney now on board. The work covers realism, traditional, illustrative, color, and black-and-grey, and the shop has accumulated 876 reviews and over a thousand portfolio photos on Yelp at the Flamingo location alone. Studio 21 Tattoo Gallery has been in continuous operation in Spring Valley since the February 2006 relocation.
Studio 21 Tattoo Gallery in the Las Vegas Valley
The Flamingo and Jones intersection in Spring Valley sits at the geographic center of the southwest residential valley, away from the Strip foot traffic that drives most Las Vegas tattoo work. Studio 21 Tattoo Gallery serves a primarily local clientele rather than tourist trade — a deliberate positioning that has held since the move. Family-operated tattoo studios at this scale and continuity are rare anywhere; in the Las Vegas Valley, where tattoo retail has churned aggressively over the past two decades, Studio 21 Tattoo Gallery’s twenty-plus years under the Spencers is itself a credential.
