Sew Yeah Quilting

The idea came up over pot roast. At a family Sunday dinner, the Tippetts siblings' mother joked that they ought to open a quilt store. They thought it over and did it. Brothers Brody, Teancum and Zach Tippetts own and run Sew Yeah Quilting, with their sister, co-owner Raymie Tippetts, and brother-in-law Kartor also part of the family crew.

Walls of fabric

The shop on South Rainbow Boulevard keeps more than 10,000 bolts on hand, and a 2022 contest write-up put its retail floor at 10,000 square feet. On the shelves:

• Quilting cottons, batiks, flannels and 108-inch-wide backing
• Minky and Cuddle fabrics, plus Cuddle kits
• Precuts: jelly rolls, layer cakes, charm packs and the shop's own Vegas Strips
• Kits, patterns, books and batting
• Notions from thread and rulers to needles, pins and stabilizer
• Sew Yeah bags

The brothers design fabric, too. Benartex carries a Sew Yeah Brothers collection, including a line called Not Your Mama's Garden.

Classes, longarm work and a variety show

Classes run in the store and over Zoom, and the longarm department quilts tops that customers send in from around the country. The family started going live on YouTube as the pandemic began; the channel now carries The Sew Yeah Show, which they bill as a sewing variety show, along with free tutorials and live sales. They also run virtual retreats. When Shannon Fabrics profiled the shop in 2021, it also sold sewing and longarm machines, did machine repairs and was shipping orders to seven countries.

Voted by quilters

Sew Yeah was the number one grand prize winner of the national Local Quilt Shop Contest in 2022, and the contest named it Nevada's regional winner in 2023 and 2024.
