Mikel’s Photography & Design

Mikel Conrad has lived in Henderson since he was two. He married the girl next door, raised four kids in town, and has kept his portrait studio on Water Street since 2004, after ten years as lead photographer and studio manager at Photography by Van in Las Vegas. His website says he is often called Henderson's photographer, and a 2025 local podcast introduced him by that nickname.

Portraits made to hang on a wall

The studio's focus is printed portraits rather than files on a phone. Mikel helps plan clothing, location and style, then walks clients through sizes and finishes; prints come from a Kodak-certified lab, and a free design consultation comes before custom art pieces. Sessions include:

• Family portraits, including three- and four-generation groups
• High school senior and graduation portraits
• Executive headshots, in the studio or on location
• Milestone portraits for Eagle Scouts, Gold Award Girl Scouts, missionaries, baptisms and quinceañeras

An Eagle Scout himself, with three Eagle Scout sons, he has photographed scouting milestones for more than 25 years. For those sessions the studio keeps a range of backdrops and props, and you see your images on a 60-inch screen in the showroom right after the shoot, usually within about 45 minutes.

Old photos, kept local

Mikel also copies and restores damaged photographs: faded color, tears, creases, stains and missing areas, plus enlargements and prints for memorial displays. The original stays at the Water Street studio while he works on a high-resolution copy, and the first look at a photo is free.

Projects and neighbors

His longer projects include Echoes of the West, fine art portraits of working cowboys and ranchers planned for a book, and 250 Faces of Service & Sacrifice, a portrait series of veterans and service members that he presented to the Nevada Sons of the American Revolution in 2025. He has served as president of the Water Street District Business Association, helped bring Small Business Saturday to Henderson, and uses the studio as a Toys for Tots drop-off point each holiday season.
