Gina Barbara was the weird art kid — her words. Raised by a single mom in San Francisco, she was bullied badly for years, but she was always the one who excelled the moment a class involved creating something. Visual art, performing art, anything expressive. Gina Barbara knew early that a nine-to-five was never going to be the path. At eighteen, she had her first solo art gallery as a fine art painter. She was good enough to do it professionally, but she made a deliberate choice not to — she didn’t want to turn the thing she loved into something that lost its spark.
Gina Barbara went straight from that gallery to Academy of Art University in San Francisco. She worked three jobs to cover tuition on top of student loans. She had never picked up a camera before walking into her first photography class, but something clicked immediately. Anything artistic came naturally to Gina Barbara, and photography was no different. By the time she graduated, she was already building a career in glamour photography.
Over the next two decades, Gina Barbara became internationally known and internationally published in the pinup, burlesque, and fetish photography communities — industries where technical skill matters, but trust between photographer and subject matters more. After thirty-three years in San Francisco, the pandemic hit and Gina Barbara was ready for something new. She moved to Las Vegas and realized she was sitting in one of the biggest elopement markets in the world. Gina Barbara Photography expanded into weddings and elopements, and the fast-paced, high-energy celebration of two people in love turned out to be exactly where Gina Barbara wanted to be.
