custom jewelry and heirloom restoration in Midtown Reno
Erik Ottmann grew up sketching in his father's jewelry-store office. Midtown Diamonds is his continuation of that family trade, with a different address and a store he designed around Reno's Midtown neighborhood.
Ottmann opened Midtown Diamonds in March 2017 after his father Tim retired from The Gem Gallery. He had worked in the family business while attending the University of Nevada, Reno, then joined it full time after graduating. His own shop occupies space at 777 South Center Street, in the former Maytan Music building at Center and Cheney.
From a drawing to a piece of jewelry
Custom work begins with a conversation about the person, the occasion and what the piece should represent. The design team uses traditional sketches to turn an idea into something a customer can review. Someone can arrive with a specific concept or ask the store to develop options.
Engagement rings and wedding bands are central to the business, but the selection extends to colored-stone jewelry, earrings, necklaces, bracelets and watches. The store lists both natural-diamond and lab-grown-diamond categories, along with gold, silver and pearl pieces.
Keeping family jewelry in use
Midtown Diamonds also handles repair and restoration. Its service list includes ring resizing, tip and prong repair, rhodium plating, pearl and bead restringing, cleaning and inspection, and jewelry appraisals. The BBB independently identifies Ottmann as owner and describes the store's work restoring family heirlooms.
That combination makes the shop relevant to someone planning a new ring and someone deciding what to do with an older piece. Customers can contact the Reno store by phone or through its website inquiry form to discuss a design, a repair or an item in the collection.
