Las Vegas Kung Fu Academy: family-run martial arts classes for children, teens and adults.
Kevin and Renee Kawada moved from Hawaii to Las Vegas in March 2004 and began teaching martial arts here. They run Las Vegas Kung Fu Academy with their son Isaac, making the school a family business as well as a training space.
Kevin's introduction on the academy website explains how his own teenage karate training influenced the school's emphasis on self-discipline and personal development. Las Vegas Weekly independently identified him as the academy's owner in its coverage of local workouts.
Classes at different ages
The academy offers separate routes for adults, teenagers and children, with classes for ages five and up. Its website says most new students arrive without prior martial arts experience. A trial-class invitation provides a way to see the school before deciding whether its teaching style is a fit.
The instructor biographies show a broad mix of backgrounds. Training experience across the team includes Chinese martial arts, karate, judo, boxing and Filipino martial arts, rather than a staff drawn from only one competitive discipline.
Isaac began training at the school as a child and now teaches adult Shaolin classes. He is also a senior leader on the academy's Lion Dance team. Other instructors bring experience teaching self-defense, weapons, sparring and leadership.
Beyond learning a sequence
The school presents martial arts as a means of developing focus, confidence and persistence alongside physical skills. Its owner connects the discipline required in class with the demands of school, work and daily life.
Prospective students can review the age-specific programs and contact the academy to arrange a class. The business serves the Las Vegas and Henderson area, with the Kawada family remaining directly involved in instruction and operation.
