Buttercream cakes, ordered ahead

Butter&Bear is a licensed cottage-food home bakery in southwest Las Vegas, run by Shanequa Hoang. There is no walk-in storefront. Cakes and desserts are ordered at least 48 hours ahead, then picked up near Cimarron and Blue Diamond or delivered anywhere in the valley for a flat fee.

The style is modern buttercream. The bakery does small fondant accents and characters, but says plainly that a design built mostly from fondant is better suited to another shop, and that it will not copy another baker’s cake exactly, only come close in its own style.

Ways to order

• Preset designs you can recolor and personalize; the heart-or-round Cherry Pearl Love is the most popular, and the bakery suggests it especially for weddings and elopements
• Custom cakes, started from a size and a detailed order form
• Next-day cakes, a short list of simple designs ordered before 8 p.m.
• Bento cakes, personal-size cakes boxed with a bow, a fork and an optional candle
• Dessert tables of four to ten dozen pieces: macarons, cupcakes, cakesicles, cake pops, chocolate-covered strawberries, pretzel rods, brownies and more
• Tasting boxes of four mini tray cakes, pickup only

Flavors and dietary options

Cake flavors run from vanilla, chocolate and red velvet to matcha, ube and Earl Grey, with lemon, confetti, carrot, Oreo and strawberry in between. Fillings are whipped ganache creams and fruit jams, cookie butter and coffee cream to lemon curd, because cottage-food rules limit what a home bakery can use. Any cake can be made classic, gluten-free or vegan, and the vegan version is gluten-free as well.

Pickup and delivery hours: weekdays noon–2 p.m. and 4–6 p.m., weekends 10 a.m.–5 p.m., closed Tuesday. Deliveries to Strip resorts are handed off at the valet or main entrance, not taken up to rooms.
