David Rosen Is Making Wax Trax Records Easier to Dig Through
At Wax Trax Records on South Decatur Boulevard, David Rosen spends his days helping people find music—and making the next search a little easier.
His father started the store decades ago. The family moved it to Las Vegas in 1998, and David took over in 2025. Since then, he has been reorganizing and remodeling, working through the shelves and sections so more people can browse what is there.
A familiar collection, an easier browse
David describes his daily work as helping customers find what they want at a fair, competitive price, alongside the ongoing work of improving the store’s layout. He also addresses a policy customers may have heard about: records are not priced in advance. With an inventory this large, he says, doing that for everything would be impossible.
The goal of his changes is practical: make the collection easier to shop. David says longtime customers and newcomers have responded well to the improvements.
After a year of changes and remodeling projects, he recently finished a major job: sifting through the store’s large 45s section. That work has made room for more of the plans he had waiting.
A family connection to Las Vegas
Las Vegas has been David’s home since he was 17. Before the family moved here, they visited annually; his parents had also lived here briefly before he was born.
“We love Las Vegas,” David says. He appreciates what the town offers, though he has one piece of advice for anyone shopping for vinyl in the heat: “definitely don’t leave your records in the car.”
He sees the local record community as a mix of different stores serving different kinds of collectors. Las Vegas also brings a steady arrival of visitors through entertainment and conventions—people who stop in and become part of that community.
What comes next
David wants to finish the remaining changes he has in mind, then take a look at how the store is working and decide what to do next. For now, the work continues one section—and one customer’s search—at a time.
