Recycled Records: new and used vinyl, CDs and tapes at an employee-owned local record shop.
Eric Jacobson, Kyle Howell and Mike McDonald knew Recycled Records from the employee side before becoming its owners in 2019. They carried a Reno record business dating to 1978 into another chapter, including its 2023 move to Kietzke Lane. Reno News & Review documented both the ownership and that relocation.
Different formats, one shop
The store sells new and used vinyl along with CDs, cassettes and DVDs. Its own description puts thousands of items in a roughly 3,000-square-foot space. That mixture accommodates customers searching for an album on vinyl and those who still collect other physical formats.
Buying and trading are part of the operation as well. The business invites customers to bring records, CDs and DVDs for consideration, with cash or trade among the options. Someone with a collection can contact the shop about its current process before transporting it.
A move, not a new identity
The Kietzke location replaced the former Midtown shop. The current website supplies the new address and describes parking near the store, while the independent relocation story explains how the established business made that transition. Older references to its former neighborhood should not be used as directions.
KUNR’s 2024 reporting on younger record buyers includes Jacobson and the store, connecting this long-running shop with current interest in vinyl. Recycled Records also uses its own newsletter to share information about new records, merchandise and local shows.
The result is an owner-operated music shop with continuity across several generations of listening formats. Its staff’s history with the business, the buying and trading counter, and the mix of new releases and previously owned music all remain part of the store’s work.
