locally designed robotics electronics, motors, sensors and robot kits
A robot needs more than a clever idea: motors must move, sensors must report what is happening and control electronics must connect the parts. Pololu designs and manufactures many of those building blocks in Las Vegas for educators, makers and professional engineers.
A student project that became a manufacturer
The business began in 2000 with students developing an infrared beacon for an MIT autonomous-robot competition. It incorporated in 2001 and moved to Las Vegas in 2002. Co-founder and president Jan Malášek has documented that history in company posts and an independent interview with Make.
Pololu's current catalog spans sensors, motor-control electronics, motors, wheels, kits and complete robot platforms. The company makes most of the products it sells, with design, manufacturing, testing and packaging connected inside the same operation.
The information is part of the product
Product support includes connection diagrams, schematics, datasheets, photographs and example code. Customers can also ask questions through a public forum or reach the engineering support team. That documentation helps people integrate a component into their own project rather than simply receive a part without context.
Alongside its catalog, Pololu offers custom laser cutting and laser-cut solder-paste stencils. Those services have separate inquiry routes so a fabrication request can reach the appropriate team.
A Las Vegas base, an online storefront
The company is headquartered at 920 Pilot Road, south of the airport. In a 2026 anniversary post, Malášek described the purchase of its building as a milestone in maintaining a long-term manufacturing base.
Pololu sells online and does not operate a walk-in retail store. Local customers can follow its will-call instructions for pickup or arrange a meeting in advance. Its general business inbox is published separately from technical support, making it possible to direct a question to the right part of the operation.
