Bryan Holloway and Peter Crooks own this Reno brewery, founded around German-style lagers and seasonal beers.
German-style lagers were the starting point for Pigeon Head Brewery when it opened in May 2014. The Reno brewery has kept those beers at the center of its identity while adding a rotating range of seasonal styles.
A brewer who came home
Co-owner and head brewer Bryan Holloway started homebrewing in college before pursuing professional training through the World Brewing Academy. His brewing studies took him to Chicago’s Siebel Institute and the Doemens Academy in Germany. After working at a California brewery, he returned to the Reno area and joined Pigeon Head as head brewer in November 2014.
Holloway and Peter Crooks purchased the brewery together in December 2017. Crooks, a retired physician and musician, moved to northern Nevada that year. Their partnership combines Holloway’s brewing work with Crooks’s involvement in the business and taproom. Holloway also publicly identified himself as a co-owner in a 2025 statement to the Nevada Legislature.
The taproom on Fifth Street
Indoor seating gives visitors a view of the brewhouse, while an outdoor patio adds another option when weather permits. The brewery welcomes special events and private groups. Customers can stop in to try the current selection or take beer home, with weekly specials and changing releases listed through the business.
Pigeon Head’s place in the Reno Brewery District connects it with other independent food and drink stops in the area. Local reporting has documented Holloway’s interest in helping the historic neighborhood become a place people can explore on foot.
