The Lovelady Brothers and Mike Brook: A Family Bet on Water Street

Richard, Robert, Jerry, and Jeffrey Lovelady grew up together, and when the four brothers decided to open a brewery, they brought along Mike Brook — a friend close enough to the family to function as a fifth partner. Lovelady Brewing Company opened on April 1, 2016, at 20 South Water Street in downtown Henderson, at a time when the Water Street District was still closer to its sleepy past than the revitalized entertainment corridor it would become. The brothers were not career brewers; they were a family that liked making beer together and saw an opportunity to plant a business in a part of Henderson that the city had earmarked for reinvestment but that most commercial tenants were still avoiding. That willingness to move early — before the streetscape improvements, before the new residential towers, before the district earned its current reputation — gave Lovelady a founding-tenant credibility that later arrivals cannot replicate.

The original Water Street taproom became enough of a draw that the ownership group expanded to a second location at 1550 North Green Valley Parkway, giving the brewery a presence in Henderson’s Green Valley commercial corridor as well as its downtown core. The brewing program emphasizes approachable styles — IPAs, wheat ales, stouts, and seasonal rotations — brewed on-site and served in taproom settings designed for long afternoons rather than quick pours. Lovelady has been featured by Visit Las Vegas as part of the region’s growing craft beer landscape, and the brewery regularly hosts live music, food trucks, and community events that reinforce its role as a neighborhood gathering place rather than a destination bar.

Lovelady Brewing Company in the Las Vegas Valley

Henderson’s Water Street District has undergone one of the most visible urban transformations in Southern Nevada over the past decade. New mixed-use buildings, a redesigned streetscape, and a growing calendar of city-sponsored events have turned a block that was largely vacant ten years ago into a walkable entertainment corridor. Lovelady Brewing Company was part of that transformation from the beginning, opening its doors when the district was still more promise than reality. The brewery’s second taproom in Green Valley extends its reach into Henderson’s suburban east side, but the Water Street original remains the flagship — a taproom where the owners are often behind the bar, the beer was brewed in the same building, and the neighborhood context is inseparable from the drinking experience. For Henderson residents who watched Water Street evolve from an afterthought into a destination, Lovelady is one of the businesses that made the case early that the district was worth betting on.
