Made to order, not pulled from a warehouse

Fetching Foods doesn't keep inventory. The Las Vegas pet-food maker orders ingredients each week based on the orders it has received, then makes the food by hand. Whole named cuts, such as chicken thigh or boneless leg of lamb, are ground together with organs (the grinder is the only machine that touches the food), then mixed, portioned, vacuum sealed and frozen. That's why an order takes a little longer to arrive.

What goes in the bowl

Meals for dogs and cats come raw or gently cooked, with boneless options and custom formulas. Most meat is from the United States, with specialty proteins from New Zealand, Australia and Canada. A 2022 Las Vegas Sun visit counted more than 20 kinds, from rabbit and venison to kangaroo and, that month, camel. Produce is organic and local when possible. The recipes leave out grains, soy, gluten, fillers and preservatives, and the company says its base formulas were developed with veterinarians and nutritionists to meet AAFCO guidelines.

It will also formulate for a health condition. The owners told the Sun that about half their customers have a pet with an ailment, a cat with kidney disease being one example. New customers are steered to the Sampler Pack: seven proteins in 8-ounce portions, to learn what a pet likes before buying more.

The couple, who keep Rhodesian Ridgebacks and Bengal cats, founded the business in 2017, partly out of their garage, after switching their Ridgeback, Rosie, to raw food and seeing her health change. It is veteran- and minority-owned. In September 2022 they held a grand opening for their production facility on Valley View Boulevard near Desert Inn Road, which is registered with the FDA and inspected under state and county oversight.
