Butter Plumbing

Butter Plumbing picks up the phone 24 hours a day, which is the main thing to know if water is coming through a ceiling at 2 a.m. The family-owned company works out of an office on Arctic Spring Avenue in the northeast valley and takes residential and commercial jobs, from a dripping faucet to a new main water line. Its slogan is the one you would guess from the name: everything's better with Butter.

Shawn Butter's path to the trade

Owner and master plumber Shawn Butter grew up in Pittsburgh. His interest started in the Boy Scouts, where his scout leader happened to be a plumbing inspector, and his father's real estate work exposed him early to what it takes to get a house ready for sale. Plumbing was the part he liked best. He worked for a local plumber in high school, took technical school classes after graduating, earned his master plumber status and opened his own business in 1984. The Better Business Bureau's file lists him as president and dates the company to May 1984.

Jobs they take on

• Leak detection, video pipeline inspection and water quality testing
• Drain cleaning, hydro jetting and sewer clog repair
• Water heaters (tank and tankless), boilers, pool heaters and solar hot water systems
• Whole-house repiping, gas line repair and new gas piping
• Reverse osmosis and other water treatment systems
• Toilets (including low-flow models), bidets, faucets, fixtures and garbage disposals
• Remodel rough-ins and sump pumps

The company offers free estimates and says many of its new installations come with lifetime parts and labor warranties. Its site lists four service vehicles on the road.

Around the valley the service map includes North Las Vegas, Sunrise Manor, Paradise, Henderson, Anthem, Summerlin, Sun City, Centennial and Los Prados. The company has also opened a second office in Cedar City, Utah, which covers Southern Utah towns such as Duck Creek Village.
