The independent Reno bookstore combines its shelves with a cat lounge and space for community activities. ## A collective beginning The business opened in 2022 with four founders: Rosie Zuckerman, Ilya Arbatman, Melissa Hafey and Mike Hafey. Reno News & Review documented the group's different roles, from choosing books and organizing events to handling the business and building the original space. The selection emphasizes writers and subjects that the founders felt deserved more room on bookstore shelves. Fiction sits alongside material about feminism, LGBTQIA+ experiences, social justice, community organizing, gardening and other interests. ### A new home, with music The Radical Cat's current location is 1500 South Virginia Street. Its own relocation announcement describes a larger space and the addition of Fine Tooth Records as a permanent shop partner, bringing records, tapes and CDs into the setting alongside books. That address is also listed by local community radio station KWNK. It replaces the earlier Wells Avenue location described in the business's opening coverage. The adoptable-cat lounge remains a defining part of the concept. The store's cat pages introduce that side of the operation, while its founding account describes working with the local SPCA to provide a calmer place for cats to meet potential adopters. Book clubs, writing activities, crafts and other gatherings have been part of the shop's programming. Visitors should consult its current announcements for a particular event or the cats presently in residence. The bookstore's own community-support page also describes new and used books, zines and shop merchandise. Together with the resident record shop, those offerings make the space a place to browse several kinds of independent cultural material during the same visit. ## Contact The Radical Cat 1500 S Virginia Street, Reno, NV 89502 [Business website](https://theradicalcat.square.site/) 775-409-3152 Researched September 30, 2026.
