Look for the neon arrow on Nevada Way in Old Town Boulder City. It points to the door of the Coffee Cup, a family diner that has been serving breakfast and lunch since the spring of 1994. Locals come for coffee and conversation, and travelers heading to nearby Hoover Dam stop in on the way.

## A family place from the start

Al and Carri Stevens opened the first Cup at 558 Nevada Way. Carri waited tables, Al cooked and washed dishes, and their kids Lindsay and Terry made biscuits after school. In 2003 the couple bought a bigger building a few doors down and moved the diner to its current home. Al died in March 2022, and the Stevens family still runs the place. Terry, who was already a co-owner by 2018, is often at the host stand.

Regulars are known by their first names. Visitors from all over leave coffee mugs from their hometowns, and those mugs now hang all around the room with surfboards, kayaks, license plates, and photos of veterans and first responders. At the far end, a small cantina bar is papered with signed dollar bills.

## What to order

- The pork chili verde omelet, the dish Guy Fieri tried when the cafe appeared on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives
- Chicken-fried steak with house gravy
- Peanut butter pancakes or huevos rancheros
- Homemade meatloaf, burgers and sandwiches at lunch
- A Bloody Mary made with the mix Carri created in 1989, served with a strip of bacon

Everything is cooked to order, and the gravies, meatloaf, roast beef, chili, chili verde sauce, potato salad, coleslaw and tuna salad are made in house. Several menu items started as regulars' special requests. The Bloody Mary mix is sold by the bottle at the cafe and can be ordered for delivery online, along with Coffee Cup mugs, shirts and caps.

**Hours:** 6 AM to 2 PM, every day. Put your name in for a table and listen for the loudspeaker.
