Donald and Renee Lauderback created the Reno business around traditional American music, with room for bluegrass, old-time, blues, Celtic, gospel and cowboy music. ## Listen, learn or bring an instrument The business offers lessons and workshops alongside concerts and group jams. Its instrument shop gives visitors another route into playing, with folk instruments and accessories sharing the building with the teaching and performance spaces. Renee is a violinist, and the founders describe the parlor as a music house where conversation and participation matter alongside retail sales. Heritage Hall, the listening room at the back, can also be rented for private gatherings. Local concert listings describe the setting as intimate: performers and audiences share a much smaller space than a conventional theater. The public calendar separates concerts from jams, helping visitors choose between listening to a scheduled act and joining other players. ### A house with a musical past The Lauderbacks renovated an early-twentieth-century house with help from friends and family. The concert hall opened in 2015, followed by the Folk Shoppe the next year. Their own history traces an earlier music-store connection in the building to Modern Music and the Maytan family, tying the new venture to memories of Reno’s older music businesses. The South Center Street location puts the parlor in Midtown. Its website lists teachers, classes, instrument information and upcoming events, rather than treating each activity as a separate enterprise. A visitor can come for a concert, return for a lesson and use the same small business as a place to find other people interested in roots music. ## Contact Mountain Music Parlor 735 S.
