Meepleville Board Game Cafe, at the northeast corner of Sahara Avenue and Decatur Boulevard, keeps a library of more than 2,000 board and card games, from chess, backgammon and Monopoly to modern strategy games like Ticket to Ride and Catan. There is seating for more than 100 players. The staff, whom the cafe calls Game Gurus, will suggest something that fits your group and teach you the rules, which helps when a box holds hundreds of pieces. Regulars can sign up for a $25 monthly membership with unlimited entry and member perks. - **Hours:** noon to 11 p.m. daily, per the cafe's contact page - **Food and drink:** snacks and cafe food, beer, wine and soda - **Retail:** an in-house game shop that sells and demos new releases; browsing it is free ## Nights with a crowd The events calendar fills most evenings. Recent weeks have listed Blood on the Clocktower sessions, an open games meetup, a Dune group, a mahjong meetup, a Las Vegas Gaymers afternoon and a monthly trivia night. No event is required to come in; the cafe says tables are usually free either way. ## A magician who wanted people off their phones Owner Timm Metivier worked as an air traffic controller before a career doing comedy and magic shows on cruise lines, then spent several years in England and settled in Las Vegas in 2006. When Toronto's Snakes and Lattes opened in 2010, he decided he wanted a cafe of his own, and he spent close to six years researching and visiting board game cafes before opening Meepleville. It has been at Sahara and Decatur for about a decade. His stated aim from the start was face-to-face play, and he has described three generations of one family sharing a table as the kind of thing he opened the place for. The name blends meeple, the little player figures in games like Carcassonne (the word comes from "my people"), with ville, French for town. Metivier also helped run Meeple Con, the local convention that became Dice Tower West in 2019. ## Contact Meepleville Board Game Cafe 4704 W.
