Most people who walk into LeFrancis Studios for the first time leave about an hour later with two small pieces of glass they shaped themselves. The studio, on East Alexander Road in the northeast valley, teaches flameworking, also called lampworking or glassblowing on the torch: melting and shaping glass rods over a bench-top flame instead of at a large furnace.

## Class one is the leaf

The first lesson covers basic torch work with molten clear glass and color added with frit. Students finish a leaf bottle topper and a leaf that can hang as a pendant, ornament or suncatcher. Sessions run an hour to an hour and a quarter, with two to six students at a time, Wednesday through Saturday. The beginner class was listed at $75 when checked.

The leaf opens a twelve-class beginner series, and each class after it brings a new project:

- icicles, a heart pendant, a marble, a mushroom pendant
- a rose, a koala and teddy bear, a dolphin, a hummingbird
- a loop-stitched bird's nest, a lacework bird ring holder, a swan

Intermediate sessions take on a dichroic galaxy marble, glass tubing and sculpted sea turtles. Private lessons, team-building groups and workshops with visiting artists fill out the calendar. Wear closed-toe shoes and cotton, denim or wool; safety glasses and leather aprons are provided.

## Glass that holds a memory

The studio also encases cremains in glass. Current memorial pieces include a heart pendant of about an inch across, in red, blue, black, green or purple, and flower and heart paperweights. Details are arranged by phone or email.

## Father and son

Greg LeFrancis worked in clay first, learning the wheel at Clay Arts Vegas. A flameworking lesson with Robert Shields at Studio Royale in Las Vegas pulled him into glass, and he completed that course series in 2014. He later sold his nine-to-five business to build the studio, and added furnace training in Seattle and California. His father, Tom LeFrancis, co-owns the studio, paints, and helps in the classroom. A 2026 review on Las Vegas Tour Reviews counts more than 12,000 students taught in eight years. A separate room holds glass art for sale.
