Chef Michael Stamm, a native of Germany, founded the wholesale company MGP, short for Michael's Gourmet Pantry, in 1999 to supply Las Vegas chefs with imported specialty food. He and his wife, Cathy, later opened this shop on South Valley View Boulevard so the public could buy from the same pantry. Stamm's motto for the place is that you come in a stranger and leave a friend, and staff invite customers to taste their way through the case before choosing. ## At the counter The shop keeps more than 200 cheeses and over 60 cured meats from Europe and across the U.S., plus pantry goods like truffle products, foie gras, olives, jams and crackers. Stock comes in small quantities and shifts daily, so call before making a special trip for one item. Local chefs shop here too, and you may end up at a communal table next to one. ## Lunch The kitchen turns out salads, soup and a long list of sandwiches, most of them on ciabatta or rye: - Duck Reuben, the fan favorite, with Hudson Valley duck ham, swiss and sauerkraut - Prosciutto al Tartufo with brie, cheddar, truffle sauce and honey - Morta Mia with mortadella, provolone, capers and pepperoncini - Porchetta Pepper Club and a tomato bisque with grilled cheese Cheese boards on the menu are for dining in, and a bottle of wine can be added. ### Boards, cones and classes For parties, the shop builds cheese and charcuterie boards sized from a few people to more than 25, along with grazing boxes, truffle boxes and bamboo cones stuffed with meats and cheeses. It asks for a day's notice, two days for groups over 40.
