Greg and Mimi Butler opened it in 1999, and its website says it opened April 19 of that year. Customers order at the counter and the food is brought to the table. Greg Butler grew up in Huntington Beach, California, and told Reno News & Review the idea was to pair consistent, Mexican-inspired food with quick service. Fish tacos, inspired by his surfing and camping trips in northern Baja, were the anchor from the start. The same 2021 article described how takeout went from about a fifth of sales to all of them when dining rooms closed, and how online ordering and to-go cocktails helped the restaurant through the pandemic. ## On the menu The menu names the Buenos fish taco, with grilled mahi-mahi and mango salsa, as its signature item. Also listed are the Acapulco shrimp taco, chips and guacamole, and coconut crunchy shrimp. Breakfast is served all day, including chorizo or bacon breakfast burritos. Vegan choices include street tacos, enchiladas, chilaquiles and a coconut crunchy tofu appetizer, and there are vegetarian fajitas. Happy hour runs 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. daily, with food and drink specials. Drinks include margaritas, red wine sangria, beer and the Buenos Breeze rum punch. Dogs are welcome on the patio. Takeout orders can be placed by phone or through the restaurant’s online ordering page. ## Recycling Edible Reno-Tahoe reported in 2022 that the Butlers have recycled glass, plastic, aluminum, tin and cardboard since opening day, use a color-coded bin system and have never used Styrofoam, packing to-go food in compostable containers.
