Craft breweries put real effort into the art on their cans, and most of it ends up in the recycling bin within a day. Marissa Colatrella started saving it. During the pandemic she began cleaning empty cans from a relative, working out scent blends and hand-pouring them with soy wax as gifts. Family and friends pushed her to sell them, so she took the can-dles, as she calls them, to craft markets, beer festivals and pop-ups at local bars, and by early 2023 Brew & Bougie had its first shop in Boulder City.

The name is half beer, half French: bougie is the French word for candle.

## How each one is made

Every can is cut, smoothed and poured by hand. The wax is soy, the wicks and fragrances are chosen to be eco-friendly, and the shop says its candles contain no paraffin or phthalates. Most burn for around 80 hours. Many of the cans are rare finds. Asked whether they drink all that beer, the answer is no: people in the craft beer community donate their gently used cans, and if you have a stash you liked too much to toss, the shop will happily take it.

Custom orders are welcome: pick a scent for a can that has not been poured yet, and allow three to five extra days so the wax can cure. Breweries and bottle shops can ask about wholesale and standing monthly orders.

## Getting one

The online shop is the easiest door. It ships anywhere in the United States, and customers around Henderson and the Las Vegas Valley can arrange free local pickup or delivery. Brew & Bougie also sells at local events.
