Hospitality and retail projects are the stated specialties of Avaruus Studios, a Las Vegas Valley architecture firm led by principals Steve Maahs and Anthony Young. The practice also takes on custom residences, tenant improvements and standalone buildings, combining architecture with planning and project management.

## Two routes into the studio

Maahs studied at UNLV before earning a master's degree in architecture at the University of Oregon. Before those degrees, he served as an Airborne Ranger. His firm biography dates his experience as a principal and business owner to 1999.

Young graduated cum laude from the University of Idaho. His background includes office, medical, educational, religious and community buildings. The studio identifies him as a principal owner and licensed architect since 1998, and notes his 2001 AIA Nevada Young Architects Citation.

Both principals list professional registrations beyond Nevada, reflecting a practice equipped to undertake projects in more than one state. Independent contractor-directory records connect Avaruus and Maahs with architectural work and a Las Vegas business location.

## Scope of the practice

Avaruus describes sustainable design as part of its capabilities, with LEED-accredited experience in the studio. Its published range accommodates a business adapting existing space as well as a client planning a new building. Retail and hospitality remain the named focus, while the principals bring experience across several other building types.

The office is on South Eastern Avenue in the Las Vegas Valley. The firm publishes a local telephone number for project inquiries and a portfolio through its website. For a prospective client, the starting information is straightforward: the kind of building, whether the work concerns an existing space or new construction, and the planning and architectural scope to be discussed with the two-principal practice.
