R. Brandon Sprague came home to Las Vegas to start Aptus in 2003. Born in the city, he had earned a master's degree in architecture at the University of Illinois and spent years working in Chicago. The relationships he formed there later led to a second Aptus office in Chicago in 2015.

## A local founder's practice

Sprague remains the principal in charge and director of the Las Vegas office. His published biography describes involvement throughout the firm and a continuing preference for developing ideas through sketches. The business offers architecture, interior design and master planning.

Aptus's stated design approach considers the people using a place and the environment around it together. Its public presentation emphasizes community projects alongside the practical work of planning and execution, with the goal of making a building appropriate to its particular setting.

## From transport facilities to community buildings

Independent coverage in CMU Profiles in Architecture documents the firm's work on a Las Vegas facility for Knight Transportation. It identifies Sprague as principal in charge and describes a project combining offices and a driver lounge with plans for vehicle repair and other operational needs.

The firm's own project listings also include the Nye County Civic Community Center, UNLV Alumni Mall shade structures and Summit View Youth Gymnasium. Recent news covers work at the City of Mesquite Animal Shelter. Together, those examples show a practice addressing workplaces, public facilities and outdoor campus spaces.

The Las Vegas office is on West Charleston Boulevard, with a local phone number, general studio email and Sprague's published professional email. Aptus combines a Nevada-born founder and Las Vegas base with a second office built from his earlier professional connections in Chicago.
